NAPS News January 2011

The Christmas Pageant was another great event despite the inclement weather! Our thanks go to all NAPS families for braving the elements.  The kindergarten through fifth graders did a great job, as our Music Director, Mrs. Toney brought out the best NAPS has to offer, yet again.  A special thank you goes to Mrs. Toney, and the fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Godoy and Mrs. Noble for supervising another beautiful pageant.

January School Closure is Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The One Call Now Emergency Message System may be put into use this week!  In the event of a delay or closure due to inclement weather, parents will receive notification on the home phone, personal cell phones, and email in addition to the traditional website information.  Please note the following:

1.     Only one message will be sent per event.

2.     Detailed information will also be available at the website,  As always, please check the website before calling the school.

3.     Additional information regarding a specific event will be on the website only.  For example, you will be notified of an initial closing, but any additional snow days associated with a single weather event will be posted on the website only.

In regard to our test message sent in November, some reported the system did not leave a message on voicemail.  According to our One Call Now representative, this may have occurred if your voicemail message has a pause, triggering the system to leave a message before recording begins.

Tuition Invoices are adjusted monthly to reflect regular and occasional charges.  If you have any questions about your bill or believe it is incorrect, please CONTACT the school before personally adjusting your payment!  Pam Dorsey, our Financial Director, is happy to discuss and reconcile any discrepancies prior to payment.  She can be reached at 410.757.3090 or

Kindergarten through fifth grade report cards will be included in the next Tuesday Envelope scheduled to be distributed on Wednesday, January 19 due to the Monday holiday.  Please review the report, sign, and return as soon as possible.

Save the Date for Our Spring Auction Fundraiser!  Saturday, March 5 promises to be another great NAPS event.  The annual NAPS Auction will include silent auction items and live auction of the Decorative Art and classroom art.  Simply purchasing a ticket will contribute to the success of the event as a portion of all ticket sales goes directly to the annual fund.  100% of funds raised at the event directly support the educational experience of our NAPS students.

NAPS Association Members are also encouraged to support the effort by donating items suitable for auction or sponsoring the event through advertising in the program.  Look for more information in an upcoming Tuesday Envelope.

Transcript and Recommendation Requests – All requests for transcripts and teacher recommendations should originate in the Admissions Office.  Please do not deliver recommendation forms directly to classroom teachers.  A tracking system is in place to ensure accurate completion and timely delivery of all paperwork.  Please contact Melanie Pasiuk with any questions or concerns at

Chick-fil-A and Pizza lunches begin this week.  Pizza is served on Tuesday and Chick-fil-A is served on Thursday.

The Box Tops for Education Program raised nearly $700 during this period!  We thank all those that have been collecting and sending in labels.  A special thank you to staff member and NAPS mom, Holly McKee for coordinating and maintaining the program.  All labels are appreciated and you may send in whatever you have accumulated through your Tuesday Envelope!

The Giving Tree fundraiser provided for 140 local “Angels” in need.  We thank all of our participating NAPS families for their generous support.  Our sincere thanks goes to NAPS dad, John Woods for coordinating this event with the Naval Academy.

Mrs. Ebert has returned to the classroom full-time!  Her son, Ashton, is in great shape and has returned to school.  We are grateful for his recovery and would also like to thank Mary Robertson for stepping in to help in the classroom.

The Carpool Ladies wish to thank all carpool participants that have the children unbuckled, zipped-up, and ready to exit the car immediately.  It is especially appreciated during inclement weather.  As you might imagine, the worse the weather, the longer the carpool staff must endure it, as there are few to no walk-in parents under those conditions.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Standardized Testing for kindergarten through fifth grade is scheduled for April 18 - 29.  Individual classroom teachers develop schedules within that time frame, and will inform you of details in early April.  As always, every effort will be made to make-up tests missed due to illness.  However, tests missed due absences for any other reason will remain incomplete.  Please plan accordingly.

The Annual Spring Fling will be held in April.  NAPS parents Amy Rosacker and Kim Schemmel will coordinate the event for their final year.  Their leadership over the years has ensured a fun and successful event!  We hope to find a volunteer willing to shadow the process this year and take leadership in 2012.  Please contact Amy, Kim, Melanie Pasiuk, or Chris Daley.

Our own Noelle Norton, mother of 4th grader Ethan Lovette and 1st grader Mimi Norton, is undergoing aggressive cancer treatment through March.  Many of you provided meals during the holidays and continued support is greatly appreciated.

Meals can be delivered directly to their Severna Park home or now that school has resumed, meals can be sent to the school during morning carpool and a staff member will ensure that the meal goes home with the Norton children.  Your help in any form is appreciated, and meals need not be homemade.  However, disposable containers are greatly appreciated.

Please contact the school if you would like to help.
