NAPS News December 2010

NAPS will be closed December 20- January 7 for the winter break. The school will reopen on Monday, January 10, 2010.  Please Note the winter break schedule, made available in May 2010, is in keeping with the Naval Academy’s 2010-2011 calendar and is a week longer than many other local schools. Friday, December 17 is a half-day for all students.  NO EXTENDED CARE AVAILABLE.

The US Naval Academy’s 12th Annual Giving Tree is our 2010 charitable effort.  Each year, NAPS endeavors to brighten the holidays for less fortunate children in our immediate area.   Through the generous spirit of our NAPS families we hope to support the Naval Academy and Salvation Army by providing for 100 children!

If you would like to participate, please complete and return the enclosed form immediately.  You will be forwarded the description of an Angel in need of assistance.  The description will include the name, age, size, and three wishes of the child.  Then:

1.     Use wishes as a guideline and do not consider them requirements.  Please provide for the child as you are able.  Feel free to support multiple Angels!

2.     Package all items for a single child in one container and wrap it for the holiday.  Label the package with the Angel tag provided with the description of the child.

3.     Return the wrapped, labeled package to NAPS by close of business Thursday, December 9.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.

Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Saturday, December 4.  Participants must pre-register to attend. Limited space is still available at each seating.  Adults are $10 each and children $8 each.  Please contact Chris Daley for reservations and information at 410.757.3090 or cdaley@napschool.com.

Pizza Lunch will be served Tuesday, December 7 ONLY!  Panera Lunch will be served Thursday, December 2 and 9 ONLY.

The Christmas Pageant is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, in Mahan Hall.  Kindergarten through fifth grade students, dressed in formal uniform, must arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m., as the performance begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.  While PK students do not participate, all NAPS families are invited to attend.  Additional information will follow.

Holiday Parties are scheduled for Thursday, December 16 for PK2 and Friday, December 17, for PK3-5th grades. PK classes will dismiss slightly early on Friday to avoid over crowding and congestion during the all school dismissal at 11:45 am.

Go Navy/Beat Army Dress Down Day is scheduled for Friday, December 10.   Students may wear appropriate Go Navy attire!

Changes and New Extended Care sign-ups are due Friday, December 3.  If you wish to use the service for drop-in, or would like to change your current schedule, please complete the enclosed form or contact May Brady at mbrady@napschool.com.  First semester drop-in users will be billed automatically for the second semester unless we are otherwise notified.  If your schedule remains the same, there is no need to complete a second semester form.

Temporary Winter Break Childcare is available at the Billy the Kid Youth Center located on the Naval Station.  Call 410.293.9396 or 410.293.4997/4998 for more information and eligibility.

NAPS 5/10K 2010 Commemorative T-shirts are still available in a variety of sizes at $10 each.  If you would like one of these high quality shirts please contact the office.  The t-shirt(s) will be sent home in your child’s backpack and your account will be billed accordingly.

The Lost and Found located in the lunchroom will be cleaned-out over the semester break.  All unmarked clothing will be placed in the uniform exchange or donated to the Navy Relief Society.  Parents are encouraged to take a look, and are reminded to label all clothing sent to school.

The One Call Now Test Message was sent successfully on Thursday, November 18.  We feel fortunate to offer this new bonus feature!   Now parents have the convenience of checking personal cell phones and email instead of visiting the NAPS website for emergency information.  However, please rest assured that any information sent through the new system will also be posted at the website for continuity.   Also, please note that the system is for dissemination of information to the entire NAPS community.  We will still make every effort to contact parents personally about individual students.

The system can only accommodate a set amount of information per family.  Because an emergency message could be sent at any time (to include non-working hours) it was decided that the personal numbers of the primary contacts would be used.  The database can accommodate two (2) additional email addresses and one additional phone number.

If parents would like to ADD additional information they may simply visit our website at www.napschool.com and follow the directions below.

1.     Click on the One Call Now Edit button near the bottom of the NAPS homepage

2.     Enter your last name and home phone number

3.     Enter up to two ADDITIONAL emails and one ADDITIONAL phone number

4.     Click Submit

Several email addresses were kicked back and those families will receive a request for updated information in this Tuesday Envelope.  Please complete the highlighted portion of the form and return it as soon as possible.  Others reported the system did not leave a message on voicemail.  According to our One Call Now representative, this may have occurred if your voicemail message has a pause, triggering the system to leave a message before recording begins.

Please contact Melanie Pasiuk at mpasiuk@napschool.com with changes to your contact information only.
