NAPS News November 2010 (2)

NAPS will be closed Wednesday through Friday, November 24, 25, and 26 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

A Thanksgiving Feast, hosted by the school, for first and second graders is scheduled for Monday, November 22 and for third through fifth graders on Tuesday, November 23.  A traditional meal is provided and students are not required to bring lunch on their scheduled day.  If the menu does not appeal to your student, please feel free to pack a supplemental snack.  NO PIZZA TUESDAY, NOV 23.

Advance, written notes or emails from home regarding early pick-ups, planned absences, doctor’s appointments, play dates, carpool rides, extended care changes, etc. are helpful and highly encouraged.  Please do not rely on your child to remember and/or inform the teacher or administrative staff.   Based upon years of experience, we have learned that direct communication between parent and school is most effective and greatly appreciated.

Scrip sales have been a popular addition to our fundraising ventures!  Please consider the following when making your purchases:

1.     Check online at www.glscrip.com to review specials.  The specials change regularly and start and end dates should be confirmed before ordering.

2.     Orders are submitted to Scrip every Thursday before noon with an anticipated delivery date of the following Tuesday.  When possible, orders will be included in the Tuesday Envelope.  When not possible, orders will be sent home on the school day following delivery.  Please check the Blue Folder if you anticipate an order.

3.     The last order of the semester is Thursday, December 9 to be delivered on Tuesday, December 14.  Ordering will commence again upon our return in January.

4.     A limited assortment of Scrip cards will be available for immediate purchase at our Breakfast with Santa event and then in the office while supplies last.  Please consider this option when looking for stocking stuffers!

The One Call Now NAPS Alert System will be tested on Thursday, November 18.  The content of the notification will indicate that it is a test. If you DO NOT receive notification from the system, please check the NAPS website, www.napschool.com, to ensure that the message was successfully sent.  If the alert was successfully sent and you did not receive notification, please send updated contact information to Melanie Pasiuk at mpasiuk@napschool.com.

Flynn & O’Hara Sample Uniform Pieces will be available in the office during the week of December 6.  Please take this opportunity to touch and fit the pieces before ordering.  During this 3-4 day period, the school will accept orders and full payment to Flynn & O’Hara (cash or check only).  Items will be shipped directly to the school and you save all shipping fees.  This offer is available only during this limited time.

Breakfast with Santa is Saturday, December 4, 2010!  Our traditional holiday breakfast will feature a breakfast buffet, a visit from Santa, Santa photo opportunities, and goodie bags.  Space is limited and reservations are required.  Look for a registration form in an upcoming Tuesday Envelope.

The Christmas Pageant is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, in Mahan Hall on the Naval Academy Yard.  Kindergarten through fifth grade students, dressed in formal uniform, must arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m., as the performance begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.  While PK students do not participate, all NAPS families are invited to attend.

Holiday Parties are scheduled for Thursday, December 16 for PK2 and Friday, December 17, for PK3-5th grades.  Students may dress down on their party day!  PK classes will dismiss slightly early on Friday to avoid over crowding and congestion during the all school dismissal at 11:45 am.

The Sylvan Dell eBook Reading Program is a big hit in the library!  The home component of this popular reading program is now available through the NAPS website.  Parents and students have unlimited online access to over 50 eBooks that promote science and math through literature.  Each book includes activities, online resources, and related websites to enrich your at home, shared learning experience.

Sylvan Dell also offers a 20% discount on merchandise purchased through the site and then donates 10% of the purchase value to NAPS.  Parents can access the site by clicking on the “Sylvan Dell eBook” link found at the NAPS website.  Our code is ADKURC.

Innisbrook Orders earned over $2,900 for the school!  Congratulations to our top three sellers who each received a gift card to Toys R Us.  Grant King won a $40 gift card, Oliver Bridges won a $30 gift card, and Abby Ball won a $20 gift card.  We appreciate your efforts!

The Scholastic Book Fair also generated nearly $2,000 for the school.  Thank you for supporting our various fundraising activities.

The Fifth Annual NAPS 5/10K Run, Walk, and Kid’s Fun Run was another great success!  Through corporate sponsorships and registrations we achieved over $8,000 in net earnings!  T-shirts are still available for $10 each.  Youth (XL) and Adult (M)(L) sizes are still available.  We thank you for your participation and support.  A special thank you goes to coordinators Sharon Romo, Pam and Stefan Eling, Marty and Scott Broerman, and NAPS PE teachers Teresa Whitmyer and Sherrie Bengel.   We thank the multitude of behind the scenes volunteers as well!  We could not accomplish this without you!

School Photo Retakes are scheduled for Monday, November 29.  If your child missed the original picture day or you desire a retake, call Chris Daley to schedule a sitting at 410-757-3090.

Your Photos of NAPS Events are a welcome addition to our yearbook!  Please email your shots to Julie Winter at Julie.winter03@gmail.com or send prints in care of May Brady.  Prints will not be returned.  Thank you for your help!
