August 2010 Newsletter

SCHOOL BEGINS TUESDAY, AUGUST 24!

The NAPS NEWS is a monthly publication designed to keep you informed!  Both new information and reminders will be disseminated through the newsletter, and we ask that you read each issue thoroughly.  Look for the NAPS NEWS the first Tuesday of every month in the Tuesday Envelope.

The Tuesday Envelope contains weekly communications from the administrative offices at NAPS.  It is typically disbursed on Tuesday through the eldest child.  However, look for it on the Wednesday following any Monday holiday.  Use the envelope to communicate with administrative staff and convey tuition checks.  Please remember classroom teachers do not load or empty the envelopes, and typically communicate through the Blue Folders and/or Assignment Books.  PK2 and PK3 parents are asked to return the envelope the next scheduled school day.

If the envelope is not returned, you will miss important information in the following weeks.  A new envelope will not automatically be issued.  A new envelope will be issued, at an additional charge, ONLY if confidential information such as grade cards or account information must be passed OR if requested by the parent.  Please contact Chris Daley if you have any questions.

Volunteers Needed August 14 and 15!  All willing and able hands are needed at 9 am, Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15 to spread our new high-tech mulch!  Please bring your wheel barrel, shovel, and/or rake!  Childcare will be provided for NAPS students ONLY.  If your NAPS student will be joining us, please make a reservation in advance by calling Devon Clouse at 410.757.3090 or Facilities Director, George Kesselring at 443.852.2415.

NAPS is closed August 12 and 13 for cleaning and maintenance, and Monday, August 23 in preparation for the first day of school for kindergarten through fifth graders, Tuesday, August 24.  All PK students begin on a staggered schedule.  See the enclosed flyer for details.

Student Information Forms distributed in the June mailing or at the time of enrollment must be returned immediately.   As part of our Emergency Preparedness Plan, all contact information must be on file prior to the beginning of school.  Please ensure that a local emergency contact is included, as we will be contacting and confirming all numbers.

Field Trip Permission and NAPS Handbook Agreement Forms are enclosed in this mailing.  Please return the signed forms on the first day of school.  The blanket permission form eliminates the need for signed forms at the time of each trip.  However, parents will be informed of field trips and uniform requirements well in advance of each trip.

Account Statements are included in this packet for families with an account balance.  Please submit payment in full by August 20th.  If you have any questions or concerns, contact Finance Director Pam Dorsey at 410.757.3090 or email pdorsey@napschool.com.

New Parent Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 18 at 7 p.m. at the school.  New parents only are encouraged to attend.  The evening is designed to offer new parents the opportunity to meet the board and administrative staff members, plus review the school’s daily operations.  A question and answer period will be included.  This is AN ADULT ONLY EVENT and teaching staff will not be in attendance.

Carpool Numbers are included in this mailing.  All families using the mid-day or afternoon carpool are issued a number.  Two cards are provided to each family.  Please affix the card in the upper right corner of the windshield or the back of the visor.  To expedite carpool operations, the number should be visible to the staff member manning the walking talkie from two car lengths way.  Any families forming a regular carpool group are asked to organize themselves and inform Chris Daley immediately.  This will alleviate multiple numbers for one group.

Back-to-School Night will be held Wednesday, September 15, at 7 p.m.  After a brief meeting on the porch, parents are invited to visit classrooms until 9 p.m.  Teachers will be available to acquaint you with the classrooms and answer general questions.  Parents are asked to refrain from engaging in a personal conference.  Teachers are happy to schedule individual meetings if necessary.  AN ADULT-ONLY EVENT

Extended Care offers two, three, and five day permanent options.  Students enrolled in two regular days a week are charged $88 a month for each block.  Students enrolled in three regular days a week are charged $132 a month for each block.  To be considered a permanent two or three day user, the days must remain the same week after week.

Occasional users will be charged a $25 enrollment fee at the beginning of each semester, and not at the time of first use.  Therefore, if you have indicated a desire to use extended care occasionally, the first $25 fee will appear on your September invoice.  Users will have the opportunity to re-enroll or dis-enroll in December, and if applicable, another $25 enrollment fee will be issued in January.

Innisbrook Gift Wrap will be our first fundraising activity. Orders will be delivered well before the holiday break, and we encourage NAPS families to buy holiday gift wrap, stocking stuffers, and chocolates through this effort.  Look for more information in an upcoming Tuesday Envelope.

Our new Boardwalk Beach Blast is scheduled for Saturday, September 18.  Our first family-oriented social event includes a buffet dinner, face painting, baking contest, and much more.  Look for more details in this mailing.

Hot Lunch sign-up will be available soon!  Parents are reminded that once orders have been placed, the lunch remains the same for the entire semester.

ON-GOING SCHOOL WIDE FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES!

Combined Federal Campaign donations reached over $4,000 this year!  We thank all participating families for choosing the school as your Capital Campaign recipient.   Please spread the word and encourage your friends and family to consider NAPS when giving.  Our code is 60039.

Box Tops for Education and Campbell Soup Labels for Education continue to be collected on behalf of the school.  Since joining the program we have received nearly $900 in donations!  The collection box is located in the lobby, next to the sign in/out log or send in your labels through the Tuesday Envelope.  Please ensure that all labels are secure in a separate envelope.  Our thanks to Holly McKee for overseeing this effort!

NAPS Annual Fund continues to be a valued source of funds!  The school strives to remain the area’s best value for your tuition dollar.  Therefore, the school relies heavily on the Annual Fund to finance many projects that would otherwise be out of reach, such as the state of the art computer lab.  This year we are setting our sights on Smart Boards!  Single or monthly donation schedules are available, and all donations are appreciated.  Look for this year’s opportunity to participate in an upcoming Tuesday Envelope.
